Advanced Intervention

The Advanced Intervention program at Milestones was created to meet the needs of individuals with developmental disabilities and their families and other caregivers. Individuals diagnosed with an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and/or other developmental disabilities are at increased risk for displaying problem behaviors that interfere with social, independent and academic functioning. Further, many of these individuals lack the appropriate adaptive skills necessary to function as independently as possible in the least restrictive environment.

We offer a variety of services at varying levels of intensity to meet the continuum of needs of these individuals. These services include:

Consultation for Problem Behavior

Many problematic and challenging behaviors can be effectively addressed using a consultation model of treatment. Using consultation our clinician works directly with parents or other caregivers to understand and ultimately treat the challenging behavior.

Who Is This Appropriate For?

  • Children & adolescents ages 5-21 years-old
  • Clients who display behaviors of mild-to-moderate intensity that interfere with academic programming and/or other activities of daily living, including some forms of physical aggression, disruptive behavior, noncompliance, as well as some feeding and toileting issues

What Does This Service Include?

  • Direct observation of the client coupled with consultation with caregivers and/or staff
  • Direct training and coaching on treatment implementation

Where Can This Service Take Place?

  • At the clinic
  • In the client’s home or school
  • At another location (e.g., hospital)

How Long and Often Are Sessions?

  • 1-2 hours per visit
  • 1-2 visits per week
Intensive Treatment of Adaptive Skill Deficits

Many children and adolescents diagnosed with a developmental disability struggle with independently completing daily living skills (e.g., toileting, feeding). Our clinicians in this program work directly with our client(s) to teach these skills and promote independence.

Who Is It For?

  • Children & adolescents ages 5-21 years-old
  • Clients who demonstrate significant limitations in areas of independent functioning (e.g., feeding, toileting) that interfere or prohibit the clients from functioning in the least restrictive environment

What Does This Service Include?

  • Direct observation and analysis of the variables contributing to the problem areas
  • Development, evaluation, and generalization of an individualized behavioral treatment plan
  • Staffed by 1 or 2 clinicians with supervision by a doctoral-level BCBA/licensed psychologist

Where Can This Service Take Place?

  • At the clinic
  • In the client’s home

How Long and Often Are Sessions?

  • 1-2 hours per visit
  • 2-5 visits per week
Intensive Treatment of Problem/Dangerous Behavior

Dangerous behaviors such as physical aggression and self-injurious behavior (among others) occur more often than many people are aware. Treatment of these dangerous behaviors often requires intensive assessment and treatment services in order to ensure the best outcomes. Clinicians in this program have the expertise and resources to address these behaviors.

Who Is It For?

  • Children & adolescents ages 5-21 years-old
  • Clients who demonstrate significant problem behavior (e.g., self-injurious behavior, physical aggression) that interferes or prohibits the client from functioning in the least restrictive environment

What Does This Service Include?

  • Direct observation and analysis of the variables contributing to the problem areas
  • Development, evaluation, and generalization of an individualized behavioral treatment plan
  • Staffed by 2 clinicians with supervision by a doctoral-level BCBA/licensed psychologist
  • When appropriate, this service also includes psychiatric consultation with a review of current medications and/or recommendations for medications to complement behavioral intervention

  • 1-3 hours per visit
  • 2-5 visits per week
